Fort Picklecombe on the Rame Peninsula, Cornwall is the conversion of an historic military building into 9 apartments. Built in Plymouth Limestone in the 1840’s, on a cliffside site on the Mount Edgecombe Estate overlooking Plymouth Sound, the existing building formed part of the coastal defences of Plymouth, but was designed in a theatrical manner to decorate the Estates park land. This Grade II listed building has been redundant since the middle of the last century and over the years has been subject to a number of proposals for conversion. RAHA were recently retained to radically re-design an earlier scheme and to provide architectural services for the completion of the project. Construction is expected to complete in spring 2009. | |||||
